Cirque Dreams: Holidaze Hartford Theatre reviews
Arrive early as the lines do not move fast at all. The only down side was that Metric's set was so rushed, maybe just one opening act or extend the stage time according to number of bands. Just wish they cut the opening act because they were bad, not just that I didn't like the music that would be fine if it was just that. Everyone around me kept saying that it all sounded the same and they fumbled on stage quite a bit as well as took forever to get their equipment off stage so Metric could start. They cut down Metric's stage time. Cirque Dreams was awesome and they get you involved, so it's not just the music you already know played live, but an event that you can remember.
Blue October and Switchfoot were unbelievable!
After the lead singer had an AMAZING voice, one of those old school screamers that I hadn't realized I missed til he belted one out, there were actually three bands there, the first opening act being Ours, a NYC based group. Switchfoot came next, what fantastic performers! The lead singer was literally working the ENTIRE crowd, running through and singing a few songs in the back of the club so those that didn't get front row got a surprise when he was standing by the sound guys on the railing. I had never really heard of Switchfoot before, but after that show, I went out and bought three of their albums the next day. Cirque Dreams...what can I say about them? They were unbelievable. Justin was a creepily awesome performer that dragged you into his world of debauchery, then switched it up for a few acoustic numbers that were nothing short of beautiful in the way only Cirque Dreams can be. I highly recommend anyone that has not seen Cirque Dreams or Switchfoot live to put them on your must see list!
WHAT A HUGH LET DOWN!
San Antonioans were left wanting, what could have been a great show turned out to be an hour and 20-minute audition of new material that has yet to be released. The only classic Cirque Dreams songs that were sung were hallow be thy name, number of the beast, and wrath child. Again I say one encore. The last two songs mentioned coming on the sold-out venue. Eighteen thousand screaming San Antonioans were ready to blow the roof off of the AT&T Center but were left wanting. San Antonio has always supported Cirque Dreams and deserved better, much better. They should have taken a que from Judas Priest's reuion tour a couple of years back. That was a fantastic show and if you did not get a chance to see it live in 05-06, by the dvd, Rising in the East. That is the exact same show.
The Jacksons did not disappoint!
I decided to go see this show, and I am happy that I was planning on boycotting this concert because I thought perhaps the brothers were exploiting MJ. If you want a trip down memory lane, Cirque Dreams did not disappoint! Marlon can dance ALMOST as god as MJ, and Jermaine's voice is as smooth as ever. To get the magic, you'd have Michael Jackson if you put Marlon and Jermaine together and sprinkle them with fairy dust. This felt like a really quality retro concert by a group that has not aged much at all, and I've been to a lot of retro concerts. The only low point for me were Jackie's vocals. At times, we couldn't hear him, and I don't know if something was wrong with his mic (I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt). Rather than some of the other solo songs he performed, I also wish Jermaine would have sang "Daddy's Home." It was an amazing concert that had the crowd on its feet practically the whole time.
Epic concert/ shuttle nightmare
Cirque Dreams performance was absolutely incredible at the concert, I can't emphasize that enough! The shuttle services provided around town, on the other hand, were a massive letdown. My disappointment started with receiving an email offering a $6 round trip shuttle to the event, only to later discover others were charged $5. This was quite frustrating. The shuttle system was terribly managed. We endured a 1 1/2 hour wait to arrive at the venue, causing us to be late for the concert. The return journey was even worse, with over 2 hours of waiting for a shuttle home. The bus operators made the situation worse by having all full buses wait at the same time, rather than departing as soon as they were filled. This negative experience has unfortunately overshadowed the amazing concert for me.
